Luxury Taxi Hire

The taxi industry is finding it harder and harder to compete with the limousine industry because in many cases you can hire a standard limousine sedan for around the same price as calling a taxi, but you get a much nicer car and much better service.

The taxi industry is not only annoyed that the limo hire industry is taking its customers, but also by the fact that the limo hire industry is able to operate at a similar rate to the taxi industry because of the fact there are less regulations and restrictions on limousines than on taxis.

Taxis have tried lobbying and rallying and to no avail, many governments and regulatory bodies see the two industries as separate and that they should remain so, meaning there is not increased regulation of limousines across the board and generally no restrictions on where they can operate and how.

Therefore, some taxi companies are now including luxury taxis in their fleets to pick up on the fares they are losing to the limo hire companies. However, the main problem the taxi companies have an issue with is the lack of standardised regulation of the limo hire industry.

The taxis are forced to undergo regular checks on both their drivers and their vehicles and they are expected to pick up work wherever it may be, regardless of how far away from the depot or the regular area the taxi driver works.

The limousines however are able to pick and chose the customers they take on and don’t have to take on business which would not be worth their while. Therefore, the limo hire companies do not have to worry about absorbing the high costs of one particularly long run and can instead offer lower prices on the ordinary runs.

The taxi industry is however regulated by the local governments and is in place to offer a much needed service to the public. Therefore, the governments need to ensure that all of the tax paying public have access to that service and that it is safe and reliable.

Therefore, the taxi industry and the limousine industry will never really be able to compete on a level playing field as while they do cross over in their customers sometimes, their original goals and business plans are entirely different.
