With the style, class and anonymity which limousines can provide, it is no surprise that police in the UK have found that not all limo hire companies and passengers have entirely above board business activities.

While many limo hire companies hire out to stag and hen parties which can become a little wild and sometimes a bit messy, limousines are generally seen as a quick and easy way to add a bit of excitement and style to a night out, or organise for a designated driver with a cool car who is not going to grumble about not being able to drink.

However, police have recently found that some British limo hire companies are actually fronts for organised crime, including drug dealing and money laundering.

While it is probably no surprise that those of the British underworld are using their substantial earnings to obtain luxury cars, this sort of discovery can’t help but give the limo hire industry a bad name.

While you probably won’t get in trouble with the law by hiring from a dodgy limo hire company, you are risking other things, like your special night out and your safety.

Limo hire companies in the UK must have full licensing and undergo regular checks by the VOSA to ensure their limousines and chauffeurs are safe. However, limo hire companies who are only in it for the money (laundering) will be less concerned about safety checks and you are putting yourself and your friends at risk by hiring from these types of companies.

While these illegal limo hire companies will not advertise their side business, when hiring any limousine you should make sure you ask about their licensing and regulatory checks before you sign a contract.
